"Where the Wild Things Are" Monsters

In Kindergarten we read Where the Wild Things Are By Maurice Sendak. We then created our own wild things using watercolors and crayon resist. They turned out really cute!

Neighborhood maps

In First Grade we learned about maps. We decided to create our own map after reading the picture book, The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey. We created our own houses and put them on a street as we collaborated as a class to make our neighborhood maps.

Andy Goldsworthy

In Fourth Grade we learned about rocks and minerals in science class. We also learned about an artist who used rocks and minerals in his work named Andy Goldsworthy. We became young Andy Goldsworthys as we created nature art outside.

Warm and Cool Color Landscapes

Our third grade artists are learning about light and heat in science. We talked about warm and cool colors in art and we practiced using them by creating simple oil pastel landscapes that helped us understand background and foreground as well as contrasting warm and cool colors.

Water Cycle Comics

In second grade we are learning about the water cycle. We also learned about comics and their ability to tell a story using pictures. Each student created their own water cycle comic depicting the journey that a water droplet goes through as he cycles through the system.

Rock Art

In fourth grade we are learning about the Native Americans that lived in Utah before us. We know that they left us clues to their culture in their rock art. We learned about Pictographs and Petroglyphs and the difference between them. Then we created our own Rock art outside just as the Native Americans would have.

Inca Masks

In fifth grade we are learning about the Aztec, Inca and Maya cultures. We learned about Inca burial masks and the metals they used and what they meant. We then made our own symmetrical mask with precious metals.

Portfolios

The first two weeks of school we worked on our portfolios in class. We discussed different types of lines and we were able to make some wonderful works of art that we will be seeing as we take out our porfolios year round!
