Longest Line

In Third Grade we have been learning about geometric shapes. We also reviewed organic and geometric lines as we created the longest lines we could!

Second Grade Abstract Snowmen

We talked about cropping in Second Grade this week and zoomed in on some of our favorite features of our snowmen friends.

Gratitude quilt

We each made a quilt square in first grade about something we were grateful for.


We then pieced the squares together to create a first grade quilt about the things we are grateful for!

First grade holiday cards

In first grade we learned a little about printmaking and made our own cards for the holiday season!

SMA does Figure Drawing!

Last week we had some special guests from the Springville Museum of Art visit our school and do a demo on how to draw figures.
We had a great time posing for the gesture drawings!

Summit Academy Decorates Zion's Bank Tree!

Our 4th and 5th grade students had a special opportunity to decorate a tree in the lobby of Zion's bank. We created our decorations with glue and q-tips. We made glue snowmen and q-tip snowflakes. We had so much fun and many of us attended the "lights on" ceremony and got free cookies!

5th grade collage quilt

In Fifth Grade we learned about quilting and the different geometric designs we see in quilt squares. We created our own symmetrical quilt square and filled it with textures and colors we found in magazines. It is a work in progress but will look wonderful when we put all of the pieces together!

Moon Mosaics

Third grade just finished up learning about the moon, and we learned about mosaics in art. We did some value shading and then created our own replicas of the moon using a mosaic process.

Transfer drawing masks

Our Third Grade is learning about the different tribes of Native Americans. We learned about Totem Poles from the Northwest tribes, but we also discovered the masks they created to tell stories. We created our own masks using a transfer drawing process that makes them all unique.

Second Grade Westward Movement Mural!

In Second grade we learned about murals and how they often tell a story. The above mural was done by a Chinese Artist Liu Xioudong and is currently on display at the Salt Lake Art Center.
Following the style of Xioudong, we created a long mural that told the story of our nation's westward expansion.
Day 1 was spent sketching and planning. Stay tuned for the finished product!

Dia De Los Muertos Printmaking

We had a fabulous time in 3rd grade learning about the Mexican Halloween tradition of Dia De Los Muertos. We were able to learn some new Spanish words and become more culturally aware. We also learned about printmaking and we made our own prints with a Dia De Los Muertos theme!

Halloween Shrunken Heads!

Our Halloween Shrunken heads were part triumph and part tragedy. Tragically, about 70 percent of our heads got really moldy so we had to throw them out! Now we know that green apples work the best for this project. However, we had great success with our other apples, which actually dried out really cute. We had draculas, goblins, ogres, pirates and witches. Hopefully we can do this project again this year without mold because we had a great time making our apples.

6th Grade Egyptian Gods and Goddesses

In 6th grade, we just finished our unit on Ancient Egypt. We learned about Egyptian painting styles and created our own self-portrait as an Egyptian god or goddess.

5th Grade Colonial Silhouettes

In Fifth Grade we are studying the 13 colonies. We learned that in colonial times, painters were in short supply, so most people cut silhouettes out of paper to create a portrait of a person. We traced our own silhouettes and made a modern-day portrait to show the things that we enjoy most.
